Avalon Airport first airport in Australia to provide self-service check-in kiosks and bag drop to customers with Elenium Automation

Self-service solutions to help increase efficiency and customer experience at low-cost airport in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Australia, 4th February, 2020 – Elenium Automation and Avalon Airport today announced they have formed a partnership to provide a technology solution to further improve passenger experience and operational efficiency within the airport.

Avalon Airport currently operates passenger flights for Jetstar, AirAsia and most recently, Citilink. Driven by airline and passenger demand, Avalon Airport is now investing in self-service and automation technology in the terminal to replace manual check-in desks to drive greater efficiency, increased terminal capacity potential and improved customer experience.

Elenium designs, develops and manufactures self-service and automation technologies reducing passenger congestion by up to 60 percent while delivering a better customer experience. Avalon Airport is the first airport in Australia to adopt Elenium’s full suite of automation technologies, including its self-service check-in kiosks, bag drop technology, CUSS (Common User Self Service) platform and ‘Flight Deck’ software, which will enable Avalon’s operational team to have an overview of events across their entire kiosk and bag drop portfolio, resolving issues before they occur.

Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings, said: “We are focused on automation and technical innovation to offer airlines and their passengers a fast, seamless and relaxed journey through the airport. Elenium offers Avalon leading technology solutions and an end-to-end source of automation leadership and support. It is the ideal strategic partner to help us realise this vision. We were also the first international terminal in the country to install a CT Scanner. It’s important to us that we continue using state of the art technologies in order to enhance our customer experience.”

The scope of the Elenium solution at Avalon will cover 16 common use, self-service kiosks that will provide a fast and user-friendly check-in process and can be moved around the airport for use by different airlines as needed. The kiosks will also feature Elenium’s unique retractable keyboard that allows the kiosks to be transformed into an agent terminal.

Elenium will also deliver eight hybrid bag drops that have the flexibility to operate in either full self-service or agent assisted mode. Elenium’s bag drop is the most technically advanced on the market, using cameras that automatically zoom and focus to find the bag tag barcode.

Elenium Automation CEO and Co-founder, Aaron Hornlimann, said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Avalon Airport and demonstrating that significant efficiency and passenger experience gains can be achieved in airports of all sizes. Whether you are a family travelling with children or a passenger with special needs, our products are designed to be accessible, user-friendly and easy to implement.

“We look forward to working with a Melbourne-based airport showcasing our technology and providing immediate passenger feedback to enhance our product portfolio.”
Launching just over four years ago, Elenium now employs over 70 staff and has more than 700 check-in kiosks in use by 30 airlines across thirteen airports globally, including Hong Kong, Auckland, Bangalore and Sydney airports. The company raised AU$15million in April, led by Acorn Capital, and signed a partnership with Etihad Airways in March that will enable the airline to implement Elenium’s Voyager app to facilitate a completely seamless airport experience.
